A pair of underrated vineyards in the Yakima Valley — Willard and Precept-controlled Canyon Vineyard Ranch — and historic Weinbau on the Wahluke Slope came together after a harvest in the second half of October for this example of Washington state Malbec that’s easy to drink. The nose of blue fruit, bay leaf, Indian spices and lime peel are joined by dark notes of barrel and vanilla bourbon. Persistent flavors blueberry are carried by approachable tannins into a long finish of Marionberry. Suggested pairings include flank steak or chicken thighs served alongside a wilted spinach salad.
