Among the Washington’s emerging talents with red Bordeaux varieties is Puget Sound winemaker Brian Peterson. It all starts with his investment in grape contracts, and this blend of Cab from vines more than 20 years old features Kiona on Red Mountain, Pepper Bridge in the Walla Walla Valley and the Beightol family’s prized Phinny Hill Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills. That influence from the HHH shows up early in the aromas of dusty Van cherry, intense cherry tomato compote and light toast from 11 barrels — eight of those new French oak. There’s a terrific texture amid the bright flavor profile of cassis and Bing cherry as dusty tannins ride along the top of the line and finish with a bite of juicy Marionberries.
