Several years ago, Bainbridge Island winemaker Paul Bianchi used his Grenache-driven 2016 Aragón from the Horse Heaven Hills to capture best-of-show honors at the Washington State Wine Competition and a best-of-class award at the 2020 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Last fall, at the Great Northwest Invitational in Hood River, Ore., his rosé from Grenache grabbed a gold medal. Soft and subtle aromas hint at pomegrante, honeydew melon and facial powder. The palate is bright, clean, approachable and full with flavors of ripe Rainier cherries and banana as the residual sugar finished at 0.5%, just above the threshold of perceptibility.
