One of the Northwest’s largest productions of Grenache also ranks among the best as winemaker Richard Batchelor blends fruit from nearby Gunkel, Fountain Farms northwest of Crow Butte Park in the Horse Heaven Hills and Elephant Mountain vineyards into an expressive example. Dried strawberries, cranberry and baking spice pick up underlying notes of tobacco and saddle leather on the way to a smooth finish of pomegranate juice. It’s the third time in the past four years for this tier of Grenache to go Platinum. Awards: Great Northwest Invitational (best of class/gold).
