A mashup of the reasons that prompted Chad Steiner and his winemaking wife, Jeana, to raise their family near Lake Chelan — lake, agritourism and growth — led to the name and launch of Lagriōth Winery in Manson, Wash. The first commercial bottling they released made a remarkable splash last fall at the Great Northwest Invitational Wine Competition, this 2020 Double D Vineyard Mourvèdre Rosé that was voted the best rosé of the judging. The Steiners, who own Chelan Valley Farms, share credit for this rosé with longtime Manson winemaker Shane Collins of Rocky Pond Estate Winery. It’s a pretty pink that’s a flash to the past in the alluring nose, heavily perfumed with hints of bubble gum balls and geraniums. There’s more tropical fruit on the palate as banana and unripe mango pick up a pinch of white pepper in the finish, making for a charming drink.
