Brock and Erica Lindsay of Succession Wines took over this Lake Chelan brand on the heels of the 2019 vintage, and their team quickly put their stamp on the wines, which are poured in downtown Manson, Wash. Sources for this crowd-pleasing Syrah are on opposite sides of Lake Chelan — the Neff family’s Defiance Vineyard along the south shore and Beresford Rocks Vineyard, less than a mile uphill from the historic Chelan County District No. 5 firehouse that serves as the Alta Cellars tasting room. The nose is loaded with dark purple fruit, led by black cherry, with cola, vanilla bean, rose petal and lime zest. Those are matched on the well-balanced palate with beveled tannins, blueberry acidity, white pepper and a lick of blackberry jam in the finish.
