The Mellisons were inspired to create an estate winery as a result of business travel to Italy, and they pay homage to those trips and the Italian culture by added “i” to their surname and using it to brand their winery overlooking the south shore of Lake Chelan. Their PMS is a super Tuscan-ish blend of Pinot Noir (33%), Malbec (33%) and Sangiovese (34%) – hence P.M.S. – all harvested from the Lake Chelan American Viticultura Area with the Sangiovese coming from their steeply sloped estate and the Pinot Noir and Malbec off nearby Larc Hill Vineyard. It’s not easy to farm either site, and the Mellisons don’t skimp on French oak as bittersweet chocolate, vanilla and toast lead the aromas that bring along black currant and elderberry. Inside is a drink of plump blueberry and elderberry backed by well-managed tannins, a lick of vanilla and juicy red-fruited finish of loganberry and strawberry. The Mellisons suggest serviing this with a char-grilled flatiron steak with roasted potatoes.
