Winemaker/co-owner Rob Wohr is a recent product of The Institute of Enology and Viticulture — Class of ’21 — so this work is symbolic of his first commercial vintage as a Walla Walla Community College grad. Cool-climate varieties will be the focus of the brand launched by Wohr and fellow Rutgers alum John Kruger, and this work with Breezy Slope Vineyard is an impressive debut. The site reaches 1,700 feet elevation, making it one of loftiest in the Walla Walla Valley, and they pulled the fruit on Sept. 8. Its fanciful aromatic profile of strawberry shortcake and Bazooka bubble gum is enticing. The structure is more reflective of what one would expect from its salmon-colored appearance — bone-dry and fleshy with flavors of strawberry, Rainier cherry and kiwi. Nice minerality and a nibble of peach skin combine to give it remarkable length, offering nearly endless food applications.
