This Meritage-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (55%), Malbec (28%) and Merlot leans Left Bank Bordeaux, and the six-barrel lot is a tribute to vintner Dennis Murphy’s great grandmother Sanitella Caprio. Murphy pulls the lion’s share from his two parcels in the esteemed SeVein project near Milton-Freewater, Ore. — Octave and Eleanor. The vines near the winery, Eleanor, contribute just 6% of the final blend. It’s an age-worthy red offering pleasing richness, featuring dark purple fruit akin to Bing cherry and plum joined by secondary notes of black peppercorns and nougat. The French barrel presence (57% new oak) is rounded, and the hallmark of this red might be balance because none of its features standout from the rest, finishing with that sense of Malbec in the blueberry/pomegranate finish.
