Mike McClure uses Malbec from Williamson Vineyard along the Sunnyslope Wine District as one of the building blocks for his family’s always-stellar Star Garnet. Malbec takes center stage in this bottling, the latest in a fundraising series for outdoors-related non-profits that he and his wife Tammy support. The label designs are provided by Boise artist Rachel Teannalach. This complex, eight-barrel lot Malbec offers elegance in structure surrounded by notes of blackberry, boysenberry juice and perfectly judged oak which provides a lick of chocolate. It’s another reason to make the 30-minute drive from Boise to Kuna, but the family also can ship to 41 states.
