Southern Oregon’s climate lends itself to Pinot Noir that’s often fruit-forward and compelling, and the Marca family also has the benefit of growing at nearly 2,000 feet elevation to help create balance. Their winemaker since 2018, Chemeketa-trained Chris Jiron, released this stunning blend with Dijon clone 777 (60%) and Pommard, discretely accented by a barrel program of 15% new French oak. It’s a Pinot Noir that offers fruit from start to finish, hitting on pie cherries, fresh huckleberry and plum juice. There’s richness and finesse to the structure that brings marvelous weight and late tug of tannin for texture. In February, this wine qualified for the 25th annual Platinum Awards via a double gold medal at the American Fine Wine Competition, a nationwide invitational in Florida.
