From her Day Camp facility near Dundee, Ore., Brianne Day creates this crowd-pleasing blend that’s primarily Pinot Noir with some of the flash that Pinot Meunier (8%) offers. The fanciful nose of raspberry, pomegranate and black pepper includes a bit of brown sugar and pork belly. Those are joined on the palate with a theme of bright cherry flavors that’s easy to appreciate because of the soft tannins and zippy finish. It’s a tribute to her vineyard relationships — which include Biodynamic growers such Momtazi — her approach to natural winemaking, her touch with blending and her willingness to make something that’s affordable for her supporters. It’s also a delicious introduction for those who don’t yet know of her story. Last fall, this was awarded best of class and a gold medal during the 11th annual Great Northwest Invitational Wine Competition, a judging staged at the Columbia Gorge Hotel in Hood River on behalf of West Coast wine merchants.
