Last fall, Mark Lathrop’s bottling of Cab off Scooteney Flats from the 2018 vintage went Double Platinum. His follow-up from this former Vinagium parcel in the middle of Red Mountain – now controlled by Washington Wine Hall of Famer Dick Shaw – is youthful and promising yet already delicious. Enticing aromas of cherry jam, blackberry, light toast and rose petal lead to similar flavors, joined by cassis, blueberry pie and vanilla as the bold, yet enjoyable mouthfeel finishes with a trail of cherry juice. One panelist noted, “There’s plenty of room to grow here. Expect this to be awesome starting in a couple of years.”
