The Flanagan family took pride in showcasing its estate vineyard near Quincy, Wash., before selling its brand to the Milbrandt brothers in 2011. Barbera isn’t commonly found in Washington, but Soaring Eagle 7 Vineyard in the Rattlesnake Hills above the Yakima Valley shows promise here. The nose features bittersweet chocolate, blueberry, black cherry, cola, nutmeg, anise and leather. There’s even more enjoyment to the drink of blackberry, blueberry and Baker’s chocolate. A stream of pomegranate acidity gives it opulence and lingering balance. Suggested fare includes pasta with salami.
