Decade-old estate vines sunk into the cobblestones express the sense of place for owner/winemaker Tom Glase. In the past, these grapes from Eidolon Vineyard have gone to some of the Walla Walla Valley’s cult producers, but now the blend of Syrah (37%), Cabernet Sauvignon (37%), Malbec (14%) and Petit Verdot stays home as part of Balboa’s flagship wine. Aromas of blackberry, dark plum, toasted pine nuts and mint transition to sultry flavors of black currant, chocolate and black olive with moderate tannins that set the stage for a big finish. This wine earned a gold medal at the 2014 Walla Walla Valley Wine Competition.
