Last year’s nonvintage entry-level blend by John Patterson centered on Sangiovese, but this year’s is led by Malbec (34%), and it’s even more approachable. The Woodinville winemaker built it out from the 2011 and 2012 vintage using Petit Verdot (32%), Merlot (16%), Cabernet Sauvignon (9%), Syrah (7%) and just a drizzle of Sangiovese. The aromatic profile is one of plum jam, black cherry, dark-roasted coffee, black pepper and charcoal. Inside, it’s delicious with dark chocolate, black cherry and blueberry. Fine-grained tannins and a finish of Marionberry give it balance and length, and it was given a gold medal at the 2015 Seattle Wine & Food Experience Wine Competition.
