Chris Mazepink’s first vintage for Archery Summit wasn’t an easy one as the jet stream brought in torrential rains courtesy of Typhoon Pabuk, and this 23-acre vineyard in Jory soil lost 20 percent of its fruit as a result. However, the harvest of Pommard and Dijon clones during the last week in September and first week in October still produced an amazing example of Pinot Noir, an expression that opens with complex aromas of boysenberry, strawberry-rhubarb jam, red currant and moist earth. On the palate, there’s brightness throughout with flavors of strawberry, Montmorency cherry, cranberry and milk chocolate. Juicy acidity lifts that fruit and sets the table for a finish of Damson plum, pomegranate and fresh leather.
