More than a century ago, Joe Locati arrived in the Walla Walla Valley from his native Italy to find his way in the New World. He ended up working for the Frenchman who brought sweet onions to the valley and later bought land and began growing those onions. Joe’s grandson Michael continues to farm those famous sweet onions and now also grows wine grapes and runs the namesake winery. This Sangiovese is a nod to the family’s Italian heritage. It opens with aromas of cherry, brown sugar and cedar, followed by tasty flavors of Bing cherry and black truffles. It will pair beautifully with lasagna.
