Mike Metheny chose to produce a GSM-style blend during his first commercial vintage, and it’s proven to be the most popular offering at his Artisan Hill tasting room in Woodinville, Wash. He pulled the Grenache (40%) from Lonesome Spring Ranch in Benton City, while the Mourvèdre (40%) and Syrah both are off Heart of the Hill – an estate planting for the Williams family of Kiona fame. The program of French oak, 30% new, showcases aromas of blackberry and poached plum with white pepper, toast and pencil shavings. Inside, there’s a silky and dark purple fruit profile of dried blueberry, elderberry and plum skins. Blackberry acidity provides a long finish.
