The Andrews and Rowell family has been growing wine grapes in Washington’s Horse Heaven Hills since 1980, and Robert Ramsay Harris began buying fruit from the McKinley Springs folks since 2005. Harris focused much of his efforts on Rhone varieties, and that is on full display with this Mourvèdre. Leaping out of the glass are aromas of Bing cherry, Red Vines licorice, sandy loam, rose petal and sweet oak. Its hallmark could be the doggone delicious acidity that surrounds flavors of dusty pie cherry, Craisins, pomegranate and dried apricot. Supple tannins create a very pleasing mouth feel that’s capped by mouthwatering orange zest. Ask for more of the Mourvèdre at either the RR tasting room in Woodinville on weekends or their Queen Anne Wine Room in Seattle during Tuesday through Sunday.
