Leland, not far from Oregon City, has been one of founder Dick Erath’s favorite vineyards for a long time. His first vineyard-designated Leland was in 1987, the same year he began contracting for all of its grapes. This version of the Leland opens with alluring aromas of black olive, ginger, clove, Rainier cherry and black truffles. On the palate, it offers a clean entry of cherry, watermelon and blue fruits. This is distinctly different than Erath’s other vineyard-designated wines, perhaps because it is the only one using grapes from the east side of the Willamette River, as Leland is in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains.
