The Vinagium group planted the five major red Bordeaux varieties in this 33-acre parcel along the southern end of Red Mountain’s Sunset Road, and vintner Robert Delf pulled from the 3-acre Petit Verdot block for this reserve-style bottling. While there’s generous barrel influence to the aromas of toast and brown sugar, it comes with plenty of depth to the dark blue fruit and leather inside. Rich blackberry and blueberry flavors are met by rewarding tannins that are not overwhelming. Petit Verdot when released as a standalone wine can be massive, and while this is substantial, it’s nicely done, not overwhelming. Serve with lamb stew, pepper steak, mushrooms or Beef Bourguignon.
