Anam Cara Cellars 2011 Nicholas Estate Dry Riesling, Chehalem Mountains, $22
By Great Northwest Wine on March 9, 2013
The first commercial release from the Nicholas’ 2-acre block for Riesling bodes well for the future of this 2008 planting. Aromas of kumquat, starfruit, apples and slate are joined by honeycomb, beeswax and candy corn, indicators of the partial fermentation in neutral French oak. Flavors begin with a spoonful of fresh apple sauce and finish with fresh-squeezed lime to balance the residual sugar (1.2%). It’s backed by more minerality, which should work well with breaded seafood, sushi or brats.
