Chateau Ste. Michelle 2010 Canoe Ridge Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Horse Heaven Hills, $30
Canoe Ridge is a hill overlooking the Columbia River in Washington’s southern Horse Heaven Hills. It has a lengthy history that goes back to when Lewis & Clark were floating toward the Pacific Ocean and destiny. As the story goes, one of the intrepid explorers looked up at the ridge and thought it looked like an upside-down canoe. Nearly two centuries later, Ste. Michelle Wine Estates began planting grapes here, and it is turning out to be a real sweet spot. This Cab uses estate grapes and shows off aromas of dusty cherry, mint and oak, followed by flavors of black currant, black olive, black tea and dark chocolate. There’s a lot to like in this wine.
