DiStefano Winery 2009 Domenica, Columbia Valley, $32
By Great Northwest Wine on August 11, 2013
This red blend from a top Woodinville, Wash., winery is named for Domenica Paganelli, grandmother of co-owner Donna Newton. Domenica emigrated from Italy through Ellis Island in 1915. This is a blend that leads with Merlot (88%) and includes Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It opens with aromas of boysenberry, spicy oak, plum and pink peppercorn, followed by flavors of chocolate, blackberry, black olive and cherry, all backed with supple tannins. It is a very pretty wine.
