Kiona Vineyards and Winery 2010 Lemberger, Red Mountain, $15
Best Buy! Red Mountain pioneer John Williams was the first in the country to bottle this Austrian variety back in 1980. The family refers to this as “Pinot Noir on steroids,” and this vintage comes across on the bold side. Classic aromas of strawberry, dark chocolate, black pepper and cedar include huge notes of clove and horehound. On the palate, it’s surprisingly big with black cherries and bittersweet chocolate, backed by strawberry/rhubarb compote, juniper berry and lime juice. Always a fun wine for food pairings, look for this to be spotlighted during Kiona’s annual Fall Feast winemaker’s dinner — featuring Molly Williams Catering — on Nov. 15.
