Martin-Scott Winery 2012 Viognier, Columbia Valley, $15
By Great Northwest Wine on November 4, 2013
Best Buy! This year, Mike Scott and Judi Martin celebrated the 10th anniversary of their North Central Washington winery, and it’s rare to find a Viognier of this quality at this price. While it’s not listed on the label, their estate Needlerock Vineyard produced the grapes that helped offer up hints of Orange Julius, peach, pineapple candy and clove. The approach is off-dry with flavors of orange Creamsicle, center-cut pineapple and apple sauce, but there’s enough acidity to make this a delicious pairing with pork loin. The Scotts also suggest serving this as an aperitif with Fontina cheese.
