Milbrandt Vineyards 2012 Evergreen Vineyard The Estates Chardonnay, Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley, $23
By Great Northwest Wine on November 27, 2013
Few sites in the Pacific Northwest produce better white wines than the Milbrandt brothers’ Evergreen Vineyard near the Gorge at George, Wash., amphitheater. Joshua Maloney barrel-aged the fruit in 20% new French oak, and that imparts aromas of toast, butter, cantaloupe, baked apple and pineapple. The first sip brings in buttery notes with dried pineapple, leading to a rich midpalate and an expressive finish of cantaloupe and butterscotch. Suggested fare includes soft cheese, herb-crusted halibut and scallops as there’s plenty of acidity to play nicely.
Rating: Excellent
Production: 400 cases
Alcohol: 14.5%
