Hood Crest Winery 2010 Vintner’s Select Sangiovese, Columbia Gorge, $28
By Great Northwest Wine on December 11, 2013
Patrik and Tess Barr have made wine at the base of Mount Hood since 2003, but she’s been singing and playing the blues professionally throughout the Pacific Northwest for more than 30 years. This Italian grape also performs well in the Columbia Gorge, and the Barrs hit the high-toned red fruit notes with this production that opens with cranberry, pomegranate, dried cherry, candied plum and potpourri aromas. The palate carries a theme of Chukar Cherry with a background of enthusiastic acidity and resonating tannins that carry into crescendo of pie cherries.
