Canoe Ridge Vineyard 2010 Block 8 Estate Merlot, Columbia Valley, $58
By Great Northwest Wine on December 14, 2013
Part of the reserve tier for this longtime Walla Walla Valley winery, the sleek black bottle could just as easily feature “Horse Heaven Hills” as the appellation since it’s all taken off Precept’s remarkable Canoe Ridge Vineyard west of Paterson, Wash. The nose carries notes of plum, blueberry, cherry fruit leather, black pepper and freshly cut cedar. Its profile is big with rich and juicy blue fruit, backed by enjoyable chalky tannins that stay right alongside the acidity. Enjoy with a char-broiled T-bone or tuck away for a handful of years.
