The Milbrandt brothers began planting wine grapes in 1997 on the Wahluke Slope. Northridge, one of the highest-elevation vineyards on the slope, is Milbrandt’s top estate source. This Cabernet Sauvignon (with a bit of Malbec and Petit Verdot) is named after Sentinel Gap, a nearby land formation that provides passage for the Columbia River to come down alongside and around the Wahluke Slope. It’s a hedonistic wine with aromas of Belgian chocolate, black cherry, sweet herbs and fresh-from-the-oven snickerdoodle cookies. On the palate, the gorgeous flavors of dark chocolate, black plum and black cherry are beautifully framed by silky, fine-grained tannins. This is a wine best enjoyed in the next five years.
