Radius 2012 Riesling, Washington, $11
Best Buy! Hal Landvoigt, director of winemaking for Seattle-based Precept, takes the lead on this innovation brand for the Pacific Northwest’s largest privately owned wine company. He focused the effort for this Riesling on Yakima Valley vineyards such as Airfield, Canyon Ranch, Cowan, Willard and Willow Crest, and there’s a liberal dash of Gewürztraminer (5%), which takes the aromatics to another level. It’s a walk through an orchard of apricots, peaches and apples, along with hints of cocoa butter, orange oil and minerality. The flavors are fanciful with pink grapefruit, tangerine and more peach. While there’s a fair bit of residual sugar (3.5%), it’s balanced by delicious acidity and Gala apple peel. Look for the Radius label at Total Wine & More locations in Washington.
