Debbie Hansen, a graduate of Washington State University’s pharmacy program, has been one of Walla Walla’s most decorated winemakers since launching her winery in 2001. Her husband, David, began planting their vineyards in 1997, and estate fruit forms the base of their program. Cougar Hills Vineyard is the source of this stunning Viognier that earned a gold medal at the 2014 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. It presents aromas of dusty pear, honeydew melon, lime juice and Tim’s Cascade Style Original Potato Chip, while the palate is complex as it opens with a rich entry of Golden Delicious apple, white peach and lime and finishes with a dab of honey. Suggested pairings include Chicken Alfredo, grilled pork and scallops. Their wines are available in Woodinville, at the Hansens’ winery west of Walla Walla and at their new tasting room in downtown Spokane.
