By Great Northwest Wine on January 21, 2014
Wenatchee Valley grower/winemaker Al Mathews has featured Malbec at his Southwest-themed tasting room since opening in 2010. This version is filled with beautiful herbal notes of thyme and tarragon, backed by purple fruit tones of Marionberry and blueberry. Inside, it’s dark and heavy with plums, elderberry and Western serviceberry amid fig, dried oregano and white pepper. Its tannin structure is reminiscent of blueberry seed with an underpinning of blueberry acidity, and he enjoys serving it with smoked pheasant. His wines also are available in Wenatchee at Garlini’s Napoletana and Sticks House of Cigars.
