Angel Vine 2011 Alder Ridge Vineyard Zinfandel, Horse Heaven Hills, $20
By Great Northwest Wine on February 8, 2014
It’s not feasible for Ed Fus to grow Zinfandel among his Pinot Noir vines in Oregon’s Eola-Amity Hills, so he relies on several growers in Washington to feed that need for big reds. This four-barrel selection comes from Winemakers LLC’s blustery site west of Paterson, and the wine produces aromas of raspberry-chocolate sauce, black cherry reduction, plum skin and white pepper. On the pour is a rich entry of raspberry, plums and pomegranate, making for a juicy Zin that’s far from cloying.
