Bunnell Family Cellar 2008 Vif, Columbia Valley, $36
He’s a savant with Syrah, which explains Ron Bunnell’s passion for red Rhône blends. Here’s one of three he develops, and the assemblage of Syrah (60%), Mourvèdre (30%) and Petite Sirah is named in reference to a French musical term for a lively tempo. Charming aromas of boysenberry, dusty blueberry, lilac and lime peel are followed by more of dark purple fruit, backed by a creamy mouth feel and an upbeat of pomegranate acidity. It received a silver medal at the Seattle Wine and Food Exhibition Wine Competition, and these wines are available at the Bunnell tasting rooms in Walla Walla and Woodinville. Better yet, visit their tasting room in Prosser and see what Ron’s wife Susan pairs with it at her Wine O’Clock Wine Bar and Bistro in the Vintners Village.
