Avennia 2011 Gravura Red Wine, Columbia Valley, $35
By Great Northwest Wine on April 20, 2014
Woodinville winemaker Chris Peterson crafts his tribute to the Graves region of Bordeaux with this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (63%), Merlot (29%) and Cabernet Franc, which tilts toward Red Mountain’s power from its influence of Angela’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (38%) and Klipsun Vineyard Merlot (19%). The pleasing nose of dried black currant, Red Vines licorice, blueberry and pomegranate includes a slice of bell pepper from the Cab Franc, as well as saddle leather. The palate presents plums, cassis and chocolate-covered pomegranate seeds, framed by a structure of firm, yet sandy tannins.
