Eleganté Cellars 2012 Strawberry Wine, Walla Walla Valley, $24
Klicker’s Strawberry Acres, a seasonal delicacy from Walla Walla, is the source of this skillfully crafted nongrape wine by retired educator Doug Simmons. It comes with beautiful — and natural — aromas of strawberries and cream, apricot and tangerine. On the pour, there are bang-on flavors of fresh-picked strawberries. While the residual sugar is listed as 1%, this airport winemaker presents this in a bone-dry style as bright acidity continues to showcase the fruit through to the finish of white strawberry. Simmons, who has made this in a more off-dry style in the past, serves this before dinner with vintage cheeses or during the dessert course with angel food cake or vanilla ice cream.
