Palouse Winery 2010 Eclipse, Washington, $29
By Great Northwest Wine on May 6, 2014
Vashon Island pilot George Kirkish and his wife, Linda, named their winery as a tribute to the gentle and rolling hills in eastern Washington, and their blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdto and Malbec from Dineen and Portteus vineyards in the Yakima Valley flows with elegance. The nose features black currant, dusty plums, strawberry taffy, coffee and pink peppercorn. There’s a smooth and delicious entry of black cherry and black plum flavors, supported by moderate acidity that stays just ahead of well-framed tannins. This earned a gold medal at the 2014 Capital Food and Wine Festival Wine Competition
