Mosquito Fleet Winery 2011 Starboard Meritage, Columbia Valley $34
By Great Northwest Wine on May 8, 2014
Hood Canal chiropractor Brian Petersen set up his winemaking practice in Grapeview near Washington’s first bonded winery, and he began to create award-winning wines by sourcing from some of the state’s top vineyards. His blend of Merlot (64%), Cabernet Franc (32%) and Petit Verdot spent enough time in oak to pick up aromas of chocolate, French vanilla coffee creamer and hazelnut. There’s a spoonful of blackberry cobbler on the palate, chased by dark plum and raspberry. Notes of chocolate and espresso in the finish give it length. This wine earned a silver medal at the 2014 Capital Food and Wine Festival Wine Competition.
Rating: Excellent
Production: 80 cases
