Gamache Vintners 2010 Estate Syrah, Columbia Valley, $30
By Great Northwest Wine on May 11, 2014
The winemaking tandem of Mitch Venohr and Charlie Hoppes created this elegant Syrah for the the Gamache brothers, who grow their grapes in Basin City, Wash., but pour them in Prosser’s Vintners Village. A barrel program that leads 50 percent new American oak helps define the nose of Marionberry pie, mocha, coffee, minerality and hickory smoke. The flavor profile is akin to young blackberries, dark cherries and dusty blueberries, backed by dark chocolate and plum skin tannins, leather and spice. These wines also are available at Total Wine & More stores throughout Washington.
