Woodinville Wine Cellars 2010 Indomitable, Columbia Valley, $50
The partnership between winemaker Sean Boyd and high-end cooking range distributor Stan Barrett has entered into its second decade, and blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (78%) and Malbec shows what patience and skillful blending with two of Washington state’s top grapes can create. The use of 90% new French oak (barrels by Sequin Moreau, Sylvain and Vicard) promote dense aromas of bittersweet chocolate, black cherry, Marionberry, vanilla cream, baking spices and alder smoke. Inside, the structure of the juice from Conner Lee (80%) and Stillwater Creek vineyards presents a dark and lovely profile of blackberry, black cherry and brown sugar. Its fine-grained tannins, medium structure, gorgeous acidity and huge finish add up to a supremely balanced red wine.
