Helix by Reininger 2011 Pomatia, Columbia Valley, $21
By Great Northwest Wine on June 15, 2014
Chuck Reininger turned this tribute to the Burgundy snail into one of the Walla Walla Valley’s most popular proprietary blends, and a key component to the secret sauce continues to be the role of Syrah (13%) in this otherwise blend of Bordeaux varieties Merlot (55%), Cabernet Franc (17%), Petit Verdot (10%) and Cabernet Sauvignon. It opens with aromas of plums, blackberry, dark cherry and chocolate shavings while also picking up hints of marjoram and moist earth. There are dark cherry, dark chocolate and elderberry flavors on the entry backed by medium tannins and blueberry acidity.
