Chateau Ste. Michelle 2012 Canoe Ridge Estate Chardonnay, Horse Heaven Hills, $25

June 17, 2014 by Great Northwest Wine Leave a Comment

chateau-ste-michelle-canoe-ridge-estate-chardonnay-bottleHead winemaker Bob Bertheau pays tribute to Canoe Ridge Estate’s longtime vineyard manager Mimi Nye on these embossed bottles, and while this stylish Chardonnay is aged primarily in French oak, the focus remains on her fruit. Aromas of fresh melon, Granny Smith apple and dusty pear include a faint hint of the minerality found so often in Horse Heaven Hills wines — both red and white. The elegant structure on the palate presents more orchard fruit and a sense of grassiness amid the mild oak tones and richness on the midpalate from surlie aging. The refreshing finish of lemon oil lends it to food pairings such as crab cakes, pork and salmon with lemon, ginger, tarragon or thyme.

Rating: Outstanding!

Production: 16,200 cases
