Helix by Reininger 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley, $31
By Great Northwest Wine on June 20, 2014
Phinny Hill in the Horse Heaven Hills long has been a major factor in Chuck Reininger’s Cabernet Sauvignon project under his family’s Helix brand. There’s a wealth of black cherry, blackberry, black pepper and crushed herbs in the nose, which shows a judicious use of oak. It’s a gorgeous drink already with flavors of plum, blueberry, molasses, allspice and white pepper, but slaty tannins and good acidity make it cellar-worthy, too.
Rating: Outstanding!
Production: 725 cases
Alcohol: 14.8%
