Jones of Washington 2013 Estate Vineyards Viognier, Wahluke Slope, $15
By Great Northwest Wine on July 11, 2014
Best Buy! A preference for barrel fermentation in new Hungarian oak puncheons is reflected in this off-dry Viognier off Unit 7, among the family’s vast plantings near Mattawa, Wash. Aromas of dusty pear, apple, an Orange Julius and vanilla cream lead to a rather luscious drink that’s filled with sliced Gala apple, pear butter and lemon meringue pie. There’s residual sugar of 1.2%, yet ample acidity and a sprinkle of nutmeg make this quite quaffable with a proper chill.
