Omero Cellars 2013 Pinot Gris, Ribbon Ridge, $23
By Great Northwest Wine on July 24, 2014
This family farms 26 acres north of Newberg, Ore., on Ribbon Ridge, the Pacific Northwest’s smallest American Viticultural Area, and 4 acres are devoted to Pinot Gris. Their approach with this features four months of the lees in neutral oak barrels, and that’s apparent in the aromas of Mandarin orange, dusty pear, coconut and butter. There’s even more focus on fruit on the palate, which opens with a lush entry of Asian pear and Gala apple, backed by bright acidity and a pleasing finish of white pepper. Their wines are available at their tasting room in quaint downtown Carlton.
