Eleganté Cellars 2009 Syrah, Walla Walla Valley, $28
By Great Northwest Wine on July 29, 2014
Retired chemistry instructor Doug Simmons offers a variety of reasons to visit he and Bing, his playful Boston terrier, at their Walla Walla airport winery, and this Syrah from Les Collines Vineyard is among the draws. Tones of blackberry, chocolate, moist earth, smoked hamhocks and cloves make this a dense, delicious and solid drink to pair well with suggested foods such as smoked wild game and tomato-based stews. This won a silver medal at the 2014 Walla Walla Valley Wine Competition.
