Abacela 2013 Estate Viognier, Umpqua Valley, $25
By Great Northwest Wine on September 1, 2014
Southern Oregon has no trouble ripening Rhône varieties, and Earl Jones’ Fault Line Vineyards annually shines with Syrah and Viognier. Last year’s harvest came Sept. 19, which was more than two weeks earlier than 2012, which set the table for fanciful aromas of cotton candy, pineapple, pear, Golden Delicious apple, lemon zest and candy corn. Inside, the structure is brisk and dry with flavors of Gala apple and dried apricot, backed by minerality and citrus pith.
