Chateau Ste. Michelle 2013 Riesling, Columbia Valley, $10
By Great Northwest Wine on September 5, 2014
Best Buy! It could be said that this wine now defines the Washington wine industry — a medium-dry Riesling at a bargain price with the largest annual production in the state. Rather than a tropical theme, it starts with aromas of Granny Smith apple, lemongrass and white pepper. The entry to the palate is juicy with apple and ripe pear flavors, backed by lemon pepper. A squirt of lime juice balances the 2% residual sugar and makes for a yummy finish. Suggested pairings include a fruit and cheese plate, fresh crab or herbed chicken.
